Pricing

Although I am unable to provide a fixed price list for any of the editorial services I offer as the requirements of each author and their particular manuscript vary so widely, I have provided some illustrative pricing below.

The first draft is just you telling yourself the story

Before we begin…

At the start of any engagement I will discuss:

  • exactly what you are looking for; your expectations,

  • ask you about your work including the format, length and your target audience,

  • and ask for a sample of your manuscript.

Based on the above and the number of revisions required, I will provide a quotation which includes the price, the target date (especially important if you have specific deadlines for publishing) and a summary of the service we agree you need, including how I will provide my feedback and editorial comments. Understanding your brief is paramount to providing you with an accurate quotation.

All systems are go…

If you choose to proceed, I will ask you to send me your complete manuscript in Word format and ask for 20% up front of the total fee. I will quickly let you know if I have any immediate queries with your manuscript that need answering before I am able to start editing.

A few interesting facts

The average adult fiction reader reads at 260 wpm (so just over 60 pages per hour) but for students studying a work of fiction this reduces to 20 pages per hour, and for advanced or technical non-fiction this reduces to 6 pages per hour.
